Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony

It’s hard to properly digest the closing ceremony from Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games. From a slightly flat performance from Lulu to a Kylie concert, a strange advert for Australia’s gold coast sandwiched somewhere in between lengthy speeches and a stage crasher the whole affair was a little surreal.

So instead of trying to comprehend the bizarre evening that was the closing ceremony, I’ve decided to pick out my favourite tweets. It all went downhill when ‘singing sensation’ Jessica Mauboy, now known ‘miming amateur’, started to introduce the Gold Coast, 2018’s host for the next games. Sadly, the minute she opened her mouth, all I could hear was Chris Lilley’s hysterical character, Ja’mie, and the rest of the presentation didn’t make this any better with cheesy Disney-esque singing and presentation. I think it’s no coincidence that #Ja’mie was trending during this segment of the ceremony….

Bizarre dancing with tents during the ceremony was a little strange also. I think the producers wanted to appeal to a younger audience with the look and feel of a music festival, however, this twitter user I believe has hit the nail on the head here as to why this choreography was included:

All in all an odd end to a brilliant games which culminated with a Miss Minogue concert and a stage crasher. If you can stomach it here’s the Gold Coast takeover below:
