Aqua – Shard – Review

I recently had the privilege of visiting the Aqua restaurant at The Shard as part of a team night out at work. Located on the 31st level of the Shard, the venue guarantees an excellent view of London along with a buzzing, atmosphere. Even dining on a Wednesday the restaurant was full and alive with locals and tourists.

We started with an aperitif, I sampled their Aperol Spritz and it was made perfectly. Warm bread was brought to the table shortly after which was freshly made. I started with the pork & piccalili with celery leaves and rhubarb puree and it was absolutely delicious, I could have definitely ordered it as a main. The flavours were all nicely balanced and it was a light start to the meal.

For my main course I had the chargrilled lobster with watermelon, though every main from the steak to the halibut looked mouthwatering. Again my main course was light and well-balanced and the lobster was cooked brilliantly. To finish I sampled the dark chocolate & lavender tart with pistachio ice cream. This was probably the least well executed dish of the night as the lavender and pistachio were quite overpowering even against the rich chocolate, but it was still enjoyable none the less.

Cocktails and drinks are available at the bar until late, although as you may suspect, will set you back a couple of month’s rent. All in all it was an excellent treat with a fantastic view and would definitely recommend for after-dinner cocktails if the meal is not affordable. Mains range from £19-39 pounds each, so it’s worth saving up!
